2018 Summer Day Camps that Focus on Reading
It Adds Up to Reading
Highlighted Skill Areas - Fluency and Comprehension
(This camp is suited for the learner who is still moving towards mastery with basic addition and subtraction.)
-Focusing on phonics knowledge and sight words as strength for the base for reading
-Drawing parallels with math facts as the strong base for higher arithmetic processes
-Exploration of real-world applications for math concepts to make them more relevant
-Utilizing both the numeric symbols and correlated written language of math
-Emphasizing the relationship between logic and reading comprehension
-Discovering the joy and humor in math-related books, poems and stories
-Outdoor exploration and free play time daily
-Activities and presentations connected with reading and grade-level standards
-Reader's theater for fun and practice (The more, the better!)
-Personalized, individual and small group instruction
-Respectful staff with high expectations and effective technique
-At least two hours of direct reading, writing and spelling instruction daily
-Introduction to age- and developmentally-appropriate text
-Opportunities to earn incentive rewards, including new books, for effort and progress
-Morning and afternoon snack provided daily AND a camp t-shirt for each camp attended
-The chance to get to know some great friends... people and books!
