Reading and Music
Highlighted Skill Areas - Fluency and Spelling
-Introduction to the stories of noteworthy musicians
-Daily listening to a variety of genres for a variety of literacy purposes
-Song and movement to reinforce concepts in reading and other subjects, as well
-Storytellers who emphasize music and reading
-Emphasis on pattern, prediction and steady beat as aids for fluency and comprehension
-Reader's theater applied generously (There's nothing like it for fun and fluency!)
-Arts, crafts and games all connected with reading and grade-level standards
-Personalized, individual and small group instruction
-Respectful staff with high expectations and effective technique
-At least two hours of direct reading, writing and spelling instruction daily
-Introduction to age- and developmentally-appropriate text
-Opportunities to earn incentive rewards, including new books, for effort and progress
-Morning and afternoon snack provided daily AND a camp t-shirt for each session attended
-The chance to get to know some great friends...people and books!
